Divisive social media personality Andrew Tate detained for a month in Romania

Bucharest [Romania]December 31 (ANI): A court in Romania ordered a month-long detention of divisive social media personality Andrew Tate and his brother in connection with human trafficking and rape.
Tate, his brother Tristan and two others had been detained for the first 24 hours, CNN reported, citing Romania's Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
The report said a court in Bucharest accepted an application by DIICOT to keep Tate in custody for another 30 days. Speaking to reporters outside court, Tate's lawyer Eugen Vidineac said the decision would be appealed.
"From our perspective, there are no grounds for taking the most drastic preventive measures under the Criminal Procedure Code," he added, according to the Reuters news agency.
DIICOT alleged that the four suspects formed an organized criminal group to commit the crime of human trafficking.
They alleged that two of the suspects misled the victims "into believing that they intended to enter into a marriage/cohabitation relationship" when transporting the victims to Romania.
Authorities also said one of the suspects raped a victim on two separate occasions in March of this year.
Tate, who is known for his controversial behavior on social media, is a former kickboxer with 76 wins and nine losses in his kickboxing career, according to the British Sports Bible.
The social media influencer was recently in the news after he got involved in a heated spat with Swedish activist Greta Thunberg on Twitter, which later went viral.
Tate, who is known for his many misogynistic comments, began the argument by tagging Thunberg in a tweet about his 33 vehicles and their emissions, which contribute to pollution, according to the New York Post.
Tate wrote on Twitter, "Hi @GretaThunberg I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L four. My TWO Ferrari 812 competitors have the 6.5L v12. This is just the beginning. Enter your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective huge emissions." To which, Thunberg responded with a stinging punch, writing "yes, please enlighten me." (ANI)
