The World Bank issues a 1.5 billion USD loan to Ukraine
Washington [US]June 30 (ANI): The World Bank press service said on Friday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) board approved a $1.5 billion loan to Ukraine, Russian news agency TASS reported.
In addition, according to the statement, the funds "will help provide relief to households and mitigate the effects" of Russia's special military operation, TASS reported.
The loan is guaranteed by the Government of Japan as part of the Advance Needed Credit Enhancement for Ukraine Trust Fund (ADVANCE Ukraine) initiative.
Earlier this week, at least four people, including a child, were killed and several others injured on Tuesday night when a Russian missile hit a busy area in the center of Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine, CNN reported, citing local authorities.
Shortly after the strikes, emergency services were on the scene and helped the injured.
Last year, the World Bank on Monday approved a $723 million package of loans and grants to Ukraine, providing state budget support.
The international lender approved an additional budget support package for Ukraine, called Financing of Recovery from Economic Emergency in Ukraine - or FREE Ukraine - for $489 million, the bank said in a statement.
The bank also informed that the World Bank's initial support was increased with guarantees from the Netherlands for EUR 80 million (equivalent to USD 89 million) and Sweden for USD 50 million.
So far, the global organization has mobilized over $37.5 billion to help Ukraine meet its basic needs. (ANI)
