COP28 will be held between 28 November and 12 December under the presidency of the United Arab Emirates. The Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC provides a unique opportunity to energize collective action to combat the common challenge of climate change.

Prime Minister Modi made an ambitious five-part "Panchamrit" pledge at COP26 held in 2021. They included reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of all energy needs from renewable sources, to reduce emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. India also aims to reduce emissions intensity of GDP by 45 percent. Finally, India commits to net zero emissions by 2070. (ANI)
