Kood/Sisu coding school in Kuopio attracts more than 1000 applicants from 23 nationalities
Inclusive education for a diverse student body
Kood/Sisu's philosophy emphasizes accessibility and inclusiveness in technology education. Prospective students are not required to have previous experience or training in the field, which makes the school an attractive option for career changers and beginners. It is noteworthy that 40 percent of the applicants registered for the upcoming sprints already have a university degree, which shows that the school is of interest to many learners.
Continuous registration and limited sprint spots
The school's unique admissions process includes an online exam followed by an intensive three-week programming sprint. The test is available all year round, but sprint places are limited to 175 applicants per session. The first sprint planned for Kuopio at the end of January has already filled more than 70% of its capacity, and there have been plenty of registrations for the next sprint in February. Those who were successful in Sprint will start their studies at kood/Sisu in March.
Uncertainty about study grants
Even though the code/Sisu education is free of charge, getting a study grant is still unresolved. Kood/Sisu director Laura Nykänen hoped for a quick solution in cooperation with Ylä-Savo vocational college and Kela. The decision has a significant impact on students' ability to finance their studies.
A flourishing training center in Savilahti
The school will be located in Savilahti, an area flourishing with educational and business opportunities. The area is home to a unique multi-level campus, such as Savo Vocational College, Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland, forming a living community of approximately 17,500 students. Nykänen sees strong cooperation opportunities with local companies and educational institutions, which will promote growth and innovation in the region.
Innovative learning environment
The school facilities designed by the design agency Hiili & Timanti emphasize versatility, which serves both concentrated work and relaxed interaction. The absence of traditional classrooms and the inclusion of relaxation areas such as lounges, game rooms and kitchens promote student well-being. The industrial-style space is accentuated with code/Sisu's brand colors, which balance femininity and masculinity.
As kood/Sisu prepares to welcome its diverse cohort, it stands out as a progressive model in technology education poised to significantly contribute to the growth and diversity of the software industry.
